Mr Rogers’ second shot at life!
Sweet and tiny Mr Rogers was found emaciated, unable to stand on his own legs and with severe bed sores from being confined in a tiny space unable to move. He was diagnosed with diabetic blindness, which occurs when diabetes is not treated, and his was one of most severe cases of abuse I’ve ever seen.
But from his 5 little pounds, we cared for him as he fought for his life and despite it all, his spirit was never lost.
He is now 7.5lbs, his sores are healed, he’s full of energy and the one thing missing for him to fully enjoy his second youth is his sight.
His blindness has this little guy disoriented and sadly is defining who he is as he struggles to adjust. While it’s true that most dogs get used to being blind fairly quickly, they are usually surrounded by humans who love them in a safe, familiar environment when the change occurs making it easier for them to adapt and know their surroundings.
As Mr Rogers went blind, he was most likely kept in a cage, unable to move, starving and scared to death, making it very hard for him to adjust to his blindness in this better, but still completely new environment, with the fear of being abused again and not knowing if the humans around him are trustworthy.
I’m not sure he ever got to enjoy life as a loved and spoiled dog but we are not giving up on this little angel. I’m asking for your help so Mr. Rogers can see again and enjoy the years ahead of him! His doctors say he is an excellent candidate for this life changing surgery and he deserves it so much! Please help us make up for all those years of neglect and abuse by giving him the best gift of all: his sight.
