Hi everyone,
This is my first venture into GoFundMe and Matt would probably kill me if he knew I was doing it. My daughter and I were talking to him Sunday on our way home from church about his physical therapy and options that he was exploring. I offered him my treadmill but he didn't think he would be able to use it to the degree that would warrant moving it to his house. Instead, he mentioned that the best option for him would be a recumbent bike with the arm exercising features. He can only exercise for a few minutes at a time now and he is trying to build up endurance so he can more successfully stay active throughout his school day. These bikes are costly, and not covered by insurance, so he was not planning on making the purchase. When we hung up, Alyssa told me that we should buy him one. While clearly having an unrealistic picture of our budget, she made a good point- maybe there was a way that I, that we, his SEL family and friends, could find a way to get him the equipment that will hopefully help him build his endurance and strength.
I listed a goal of $1500 after doing some research on the type of bike Matt seems to be needing. The really good ones were much more. If we exceed the $1500, the funds will help him and his family with some very challenging times. I am going to link the Turek's bank account to this page and they will be able to choose to spend the money however they see best for their needs. One issue they will have this winter is snow plowing- Matt typically uses the snowblower and they will most likely have to hire a plow service, so extra funds would certainly be helpful to make that possible.
If we do not meet the goal, I will open the link up to friends in Hudson and allow Betsy to forward it to whomever she desires. But for now, this is an SEL-only effort and anyone who knows Matt knows how touched he would be to receive such a generous gift. Again, he does not know that this is underway and I know he would be embarrassed at the attention as he would never ask for anything for himself- please don't share.
