MRI Brain Scan for Jemma Steeb

Donation protected
This is our daughter Jemma she is 3 years old....for a little over a year now, she has been battling seizures.  Not to mislead anyone, she doesn't have Grand Mal Seizures, or any of those extreme seizures you might see on tv or in the movies. What she is going through is more commonly referred to as a Drop Seizure. Each seizure lasts around 3 to 5 seconds. When she first started to receive treatment, she would have clusters of them, one after another, having roughly 10 seizures per cluster. Throughout the course of the day, she would have anywhere from 7 to 10 of these clusters. Often times having as many as 100 seizures a day.  We started with an EEG, the results came back with "Abnormal Activity". Her Neurologist diagnosed her with "Generalized non-convulsive epilepsy without intractable epilepsy" and we began treating with medicine... Part of this diagnosis comes with some learning disabilities. She may not be doing what other 3 year old's are doing, but we love her none the less and celebrate every new thing she accomplishes!! Over the past year, we have tried several different medicines...some have helped, some actually made things worse. All in all we have seen major improvements and we are so very grateful for every little improvement. Currently....she has to take 4 different medicines in the morning, 2 more around lunch time, and then the same 4 medicines again at bedtime....sometimes she fights us, but we do what we have to!  All these medicines have brought us down to around 5 seizures per day!!! Wonderful....but still not to our goal....ZERO! Several months ago, Jemma came down with a cold....and for about a week during that cold....she was seizure free!!!! We were head over heals excited...but the excitement faded when the seizures came right back. Then again...a little over a month ago....she had a bad case of the flu...she went seizure free for 15 days!!!! Unfortunately, almost as soon as her energy started to come back....so did the seizures. We were all (including the neurologist) baffled...she should have more when she's sick....not less.  We decided then, it was time to start looking elsewhere...maybe there is something else going on in our baby's body that is causing these seizures. We proceeded to meet with a dietician and started Jem on a Modified Ketogenic Diet as studies have shown it can help with seizure control. We also had genetic testing done of 183 chromosomes and we were referred to a geneticist to help us understand those tests. To our surprise, the test came back basically saying she doesn't have epilepsy!! But there was one strange mutation that we are still doing more tests on...we really felt great about this new opinion. Of course he wasn't going to speculate...but he made it VERY clear....he wanted an MRI done... We agreed with that, the more information we have, the better chance we have of treating this girl properly!  That brings us here.....We simply do not have the funds to get this test done on our own and are reaching out to our friends and family to help in anyway you can. We are also currently seeking financial help via Medicaid and CHIP, as well as social security....but we simply can't wait for that to come through and have only just begun that battle! Everything donated will 100% go to Jemma's care....please don't feel obligated at all, we understand everyone has financial troubles these days.....even your continued prayers for all of us helps!! Thank you so much for just taking the time to read our story. Sincerely, Joe, Brandi and Jemma
