Three years ago I heard the dreaded words. "You have cancer." Turns out I have a rare type of cancer. Cholangiocarcinoma is the proper name, but most know it as Intrahepatic Bile Duct Cancer. It was at stage one when discovered, and a surgery later to remove 70% of my liver and gall bladder, we thought I was cured only to find out six months later that it had come back, and now I was at stage four. For a year and a half, chemo kept it at bay, but then in July 2018, I was told that the chemo stopped working and all the tumors had growth.
My best chance was a clinical trial so on October 4, 2018, I started my first clinical trial, but by Christmas, it was determined the trial wasn't helping. A cat scan showed growth, and so on January 11, 2019, I started a new clinical trial.
Some days are really hard, but most days find me at work as an 8th grade English teacher. I am a wife, a mother, a grandmother, and an avid Netflix junkie. I am really lucky to have great support from friends and family which includes my two wonderful sisters (I am the one in the back in the picture.) I've always been a private person, but this disease just takes over your life - physically, emotionally, mentally, and financially.
I find myself being drained by medical bills despite having insurance and now my car which takes me to work and medical appointments needs major work. I have never been one of those people who finds it easy to ask for help. I've usually been the one to help those around me, but now I need the help. So if you can, it would be so appreciated, but if you can't, then maybe you could share this on Facebook or send good thoughts or a prayer my way.
