Mrs. Sandy Hurlbut and Gracie fire fund

My name is Sergeant David Thornsby with the Plano Police Department. I have set up this fundraiser to help one of our citizens Mrs. Sandy Hurlbut who recently experienced a devastating tragedy. Here is her story and why we are trying to help:

On August 18th at approximately 11:00 pm Plano PD and Plano FD responded to a house fire in the 6600 block of Biltmore Pl. It is with great sadness that the husband Mr. Terry Hurlbut, one of the family dogs “Gracie,” and the entire home were lost in the fire. Mrs. Sandy Hurlbut and the second family dog “Jake” were the only ones who survived this tragedy.

Sergeant Thornsby was the patrol supervisor on the scene that night and this incident pulled at everyone’s heartstrings, motivating him to find a way to help Mrs. Hurlbut due to her terrible loss. Sergeant Thornsby coordinated with officers from Plano PD and personnel from Plano FD to collect monetary donations to assist Mrs. Hurlbut in her time of need. Sergeant Thornsby’s wife Cassandra Thornsby took it upon herself to order multiple items for the surviving dog which included a dog bed, dog bowls with a feeder station, a new dog leash and collar, dog toys, dog treats, and a friend of hers donated an automatic dog feeder.

With kindness and generosity, officers from Plano PD, personnel from Plano FD, and several friends of the Thornsby family, all pitched in collecting monetary donations for Mrs. Hurlbut.

On September 3rd arrangements were made to meet with the family, and Mrs. Hurlbut, her daughter Lisa Dula, son-in-law Tim Dula, granddaughter Kristin Dula, Officer Warren, Officer Ansley, and Sergeant Thornsby were all in attendance. Mrs. Hurlbut was presented with the donations and gifts, which through some tears, hugs, and smiles was a wonderful surprise for Mrs. Hurlbut. Even “Jake” showed his appreciation for his gifts and rolled upside down wagging his tail.
