Ms Ida Forever

My name is Errick Freeman. I'm the youngest son of one of the greatest civil activists in Stark County's history.
My mother was known to many as "Ms Ida". She is a true story of perseverance, dedication, and often described as a voice for the voiceless.
My mother was a woman of the people.
She dedicated her life to the betterment of neighborhoods and communities, and all that are underserved.
She co-founded Canton Ohio's Juneteenth, implemented various mental health and reentry programs, founded the Stark County Urban Minority Alcoholism and Drug Addiction Outreach Project, better known as SCUMADAOP.
My mother fostered and did respite for many children throughout Northeast Ohio. She also lead and organized candlelit vigils for deceased victims of violence.
She was an incredible woman, with an incredible heart.
She fostered careers of professionals from artist and creatives to politicians, entrepreneurs to commercial businesses, and many other community leaders who went on to start their own nonprofits.
It's not so much what she did for the neighborhood, the question is more of what hasn't she done for the community?
My mother knew a lot of people, and a lot of people knew who my mother was.
She created a movement and spirit unparalleled by any other in our county.
This fundraiser serves as a philanthropic effort for various programs and community groups that Ms Ida believed in, led, or supported.
She was very aware of how funding was often unequally distributed amongst organizations that strive to help improve our communities and neighborhoods.
This fundraiser will ensure equitable distribution to those community organizations, in her honor.
