Ms. Phyllis Sykes’s Reading Garden

Friends, colleagues, and students of the late Phyllis Sykes want share her love of reading by building an outdoor reading garden in her memory. 

Ms. Sykes loved teaching and her students.  She taught hundreds of first graders to read throughout her career and her friends and fellow educators believe a reading garden is the perfect way to remember her.

The Phyllis Sykes Reading Garden will  have seating and will be colorfully designed to make it an inviting area for students to sit and read by themselves, with a friend, or parent .  It will also have a lending box for students to borrow and share books during the school year and during summer months.
