The Road to Ms. Wheelchair of America!

Hello!

I am honored to announce that I have been selected as Ms. Wheelchair of California!
When people who are unfamiliar with our pageant program hear about Ms. Wheelchair of California, generally they instantly think of a typical “beauty pageant”. However, as the 2023 Ms. Wheelchair of California, I want to educate you on the many layers of advocacy, public service, leadership, and partnership that many people never know or experience. Although there are on-stage competitions, monthly speaking, and press engagements our main focus is social justice.

Just as other pageant’s, Ms. Wheelchair of California has long valued community service, and each contestant must champion a social issue that is important to her. As a DEI Practitioner and Disability Advocate, my social justice platform is Building a New World: Where Equity and Accessibility Meet to Create Radical Change!

I chose this platform to hold the community and culture accountable for true diversity, equity, and inclusion. For decades, I have lived in a world where the disabled community is not considered, valued, or often viewed as an afterthought. I want to bring equitable and accessible change to the travel, transportation, workforce, and housing industry. The disabled community is no longer settling for unequal practices, inequities, or mistreatment. We are advocating for our voices to be acknowledged, respected, and valued. Through my competition journey to Ms. Wheelchair of America, it is my sole purpose to elevate our voice and our needs on a national stage for true change.

Although I have been selected as Ms. Wheelchair of California, the crowning will take place on February 4th, 2023, in beautiful Redwood, California at the Redwood Public Library. My journey will continue throughout Southern and Northern California, leading to the coveted national pageant competition of the Ms. Wheelchair of America hosted in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

It is with much gratitude; I humbly ask for your financial and social media support as I complete my reign as Ms. Wheelchair of California and continue my journey to compete at the national level as Ms. Wheelchair of America. With your support, not only will I be able to help advocate for equitable and accessible change, but I will also be able to meet and partner with like-minded social change agents that are devoted to building a more authentic diverse and inclusive world.

With every pageant, crowned queens often incur out-of-pocket expenses for travel, lodging and pageant attire and as a disabled pageant queen, my costs will also include the need for care and medical equipment throughout the events, so any support you and your family can provide through my journey is extremely helpful.
