Medical Support for Ms. Guy's Son

One of Westwood's favorite teachers needs our help. 

Ms. Cheri Guy teaches Junior American Literature and IB English at Westwood High School in Mesa, Arizona (2nd from right).

She is also a single mom of three teenagers: Kaegan - a WW IB senior preparing for IB exams and graduation;  Kaitlyn a freshman active in WW pom and dance; and, Kolby an incoming WW freshman.

Over the weekend, Kolby suffered an acute case of appendicitis.  After surgery at Phoenix Children's Hospital, Kolby remains hospitalized and now faces a longer-than-normal recovery.  And the medical bills are beginning to pile up. 

As a single mom, Ms. Guy already works two jobs, waitressing at Vito's Restaurant in Mesa in addition to teaching FT with Mesa Public Schools to provide for her family.  Kaegan also works at Vitos to help out. The family shares one car and somehow juggles schedules to make sure everyone gets to Warrior activities, work - and now hospital visits.

Ms. Guy has been staying overnight at the hospital and comforting Kolby who is still in significant pain and having trouble sleeping. Without family nearby, Cheri, Kaegan and Kaitlyn are taking turns spending time at the hospital so Kolby isn't alone.

Parents and students of Westwood are coming together to help in multiple ways. Some are providing gift cards for meals for the family (collected in the Westood Office c/o Dr. Davis or Ms. Bradshaw) while others are donating here to  help cover Kolby's unpaid medical costs. We're even looking to arrange use of a car until Kolby is back home from the hospital.  Messages of encouragement and prayers are also welcomed! No help is too small or too big to make a difference, and ALL are appreciated.
