The MSM World Cup Athlete Development Fund is a bursary created by Club Mont Ste Marie members and alumni to support the Club's rising alpine stars. These athletes developed their skills through the Club's Nancy Greene, U10,U12,U16 and U19 programs and have aspirational goals of reaching the Quebec Ski Team, Canadian Ski Team and our country's World Cup and Olympic teams.
MSM has a long and storied history of producing many top athletes that stared at the local, provincial, national and international levels. Thanks to the inspiration of our most recent Club athlete Dustin Cook and his World Championship and World Cup success, the MSM World Cup Athlete Development Fund is a mechanism for the community to learn about, support and become an integral part of an athletes team.
The Fund is supported by voluntary contributions from ski racing enthusiasts and the community in general. The Fund welcomes voluntary donations of all kinds, of any amount, including the annual volunteer refund, bequests and donations in remembrance of deceased friends, etc.
Depending upon the annual contributions to the Fund, it is hoped that with a minimum of $5000 in annual donations the Fund would be in a position to offer bursaries in the amount of between $500-$1,500 to aspiring young athletes each year.
The first 100 supporters contributing a minimum of $100 into the Fund will receive this exclusive, limited edition signed print (24x36) of Dustin Cook's iconic photo from his silver medal at the 2015 World Alpine Championship in Beaver Creek, Colorado. Great Christmas present!
All supporters of the Fund will also receive special recognition each year for their generous contribution.
The present crop of rising stars on the FIS circuit include:
Annual athlete costs:
The cost of ski racing increases the higher up an athlete climbs. The annual cost to be on the National Capital Outaouais (NCO) ski team at present is $19,000+, the Quebec Ski Team $25,000+ and the Canadian Alpine Ski Team - $26,500-$35,000+ (varies depending upon A,B,C or development teams). Add these numbers up over the years and it easy to see why athletes need our support.

Ken Read (Crazy Canuck - 5 world cup wins including the famed Hahnenkamm in Kitzbühel)
“The legacy of excellence in the Outaouais is truly remarkable - and Dustin Cook is the most recent champion who has made the entire country proud. It takes a community and projects that invest in future champions not only give that shot of adrenaline to young athletes, they inspire others to explore their potential. Please consider a investment in our ski racing community, in our athletes and in the future of our sport in Canada.”
Nancy Green Raine (Olympic Gold & Silver medalist from the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble)
Al and I are so pleased to see the wonderful results of your campaign for the renewal of the Outaouais trail -- and especially that the fundraising went over the top and that you are putting funds towards supporting future champions. What a great success -- and what a wonderful job you, and all the other supporters have done. Congratulations.
Also please follow the new initiative to create the Dustin Cook Training Centre at Mont Ste Marie.
