Donate In Memory of Curtis Lee McRoy

Hi, my name is Cerissa A. Brown, and I am fundraising for funeral costs on behalf of the McRoy siblings. Yesterday, October 29, 2022, at 64, our beloved Brother, Uncle, Cousin, and Friend went to be with the Lord. Uncle Curtis's passing was very unexpected for the family. Tuesday, October 25, 2022, around 1:00 am, Curtis was up and about joking and laughing with family, and around 9:00 am that same morning, he was unresponsive and could not be awakened. The ambulance transported him to the hospital, where the family gathered. His brain was bleeding and suffering from an Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM) brain rupture. After the neurosurgeon visited with him, the family agreed to Do Not Resuscitate (No DNR). On October 26, 2022, the family spoke to palliative care and doctors and decided to work with hospice for compassionate extubation. Friday, October 29, 2022, at 11:00 am, the family gathered around his bedside with hospice and his nurse as Curtis was taken off all artificial machinery. We stayed several hours his vitals were good. He was breathing on his own even though, at times, his breaths were a struggle. We left the hospital because he was doing so well they were talking about moving him to the 5th floor. Shortly after, at 3:22 pm, we received a call from his nurse that he had just passed. We returned and spent time in his room, grieving and reminiscing about the loss of this remarkable man.

Curtis was unique to each one of us in different ways. He was the second to youngest out of seven children. With his passing, there are only three surviving children. When speaking to his siblings, my Uncle Willie said his baby brother loved and always protected. If speaking to my Aunt Patsy, she would say that he was her younger brother, bestfriend. They traveled everywhere together; if you speak my Mama, his baby sister, she would say he was her playmate with whom she got into trouble as a kid, but he always protected and provided for her the best way he knew how. If you were to speak to my Aunt Lisa, she would say when her mother died, he treated her no differently as a sister, and if he provided the mud, she would bring the fresh eggs for the mudpies they made as kids. You speak to the rest of the family, and they will all agree he was very loyal, especially to his late mother, Bobbie Lee Pennick, and he didn't play about his family. He was a wonderful brother who went over and beyond for his brother and sisters. He was the fun Uncle that allowed us to break all the rules our parents set. And he was very talented. He could sing and dance.

Currently, Curtis is still at the morgue at Princeton Hospital because no funeral home will take him until fees are paid upfront. And the family would like to have his service Friday, November 4, 2022.

We are all devastated by Uncle Curtis's passing and are struggling to find the funds to cover the cost of the service. My cousin Pastor Darrin Mayfield worked out a deal with Faith Memorial Chapel Funeral Services in Bessemer, AL, and they will do everything for $3950. I rounded the price up because GoFundMe does take a fee off all transactions and when the funds are transferred to the family.

We will need to pay all funeral costs immediately because he only gets 2-3 days in the hospital morgue, and we would like to have his funeral this Saturday, November 5, 2022.

Please consider donating if you can do so. We are so very grateful for every donation during this difficult time. No donation is too small. Thank you so much!
