Save Mt. Shasta Water!

What would you do if a large corporation moved in next door to fill plastic bottles with unlimited and unregulated amounts of water during the worst drought of the century? Help us fight back!
Background:
For the past 19 months this exact scenario has been unfolding in northern California’s Siskiyou County where Crystal Geyser Water Company will begin industrial water pumping in Fall of 2015. They plan to bottle a variety of beverages and will be extracting unlimited water from the aquifer that feeds the headwaters of the Sacramento River. With no pressure from local agencies like the Siskiyou County Board of Supervisors or the City of Mount Shasta, we would not expect a for-profit international corporation to behave in any other way.
The W.A.T.E.R Group (We Advocate Thorough Environmental Review) and the larger Mount Shasta community have been requesting that a complete and impartial Environmental Impact Report (EIR) be completed to determine the effects of Crystal Geyser’s planned operations on the aquifer, local wells and the environment. An EIR would give us the information needed to put in place enforceable mitigations (safeguards) before damages occur.
We find ourselves in this precarious position due to the lack of political will and the shortsightedness of those who were elected to “protect and serve” the people. Our State, and indeed the nation, is now waking up to the REAL costs of the water bottling industry and “value added” drink products. While the extreme drought continues in the West (and experts agree that there is no end in sight), the “water grab” continues, unabated. With limited water resources, we cannot afford to allow corporations to make huge profits to the detriment of ordinary citizens and the environment. It is time to take action!
What we need to safely move forward:
After thorough consultation with Don Mooney, one of the state’s leading water and land use attorneys, we are putting together a court challenge to demand an EIR for the Crystal Geyser plant. We need to raise funds for attorney fees to mount this difficult legal challenge.
You can do your part, at this pivotal stage of the process, by contributing financially to support this lawsuit. PLEASE dig deep to help save our precious water resources. It is the “life blood” for the local community as well as for all those who depend on this water as it flows southward. Thank you!
