Mt Hagen COVID-19 Assistance
Donation protected
The recent delta variant outbreak in Mt Hagen has pushed Mt Hagen General Hospital to the brink as health authorities say this is the worst surge in Covid-19 cases since the pandemic began.
In Western Highlands, the country's most densely populated region, Mt Hagen hospital is facing a severe shortage of basic supplies and medical equipment. At present, there are 844 positive cases, 61 hospital staff with covid and 25 covid-related deaths in the last 20 days. The situation is dire.
Over-worked medical staff face fatigue and burn-out as they cope with increasing numbers of the sick and unwell.
With a doctor to patient ratio of less than 1 doctor per 10,000 people and only 5 nurses per 10,000 people, an already ailing system is being crippled by the huge surge of COVID-19 cases.
We are hoping to fundraise to support doctors, nurses and medical staff with basic supplies, medical supplies and equipment, food and any ancillary supplies they may need. We hope also to support the expansion of vaccination centres in the Western Highlands Province.
Any and all donations are welcome and appreciated.
