Boise Pride Won't Go Dark - Light the Capitol

June 1st of every year marks the beginning of Pride month, and it is our mission as an organization to deliver a bold, colorful, and brighter than ever Pride this season. You may already be familiar with the Idaho State Capitol building lighting petition circulating on Change.org, which has gathered over 18,000 signatures to date. Despite the annual tradition of lighting the State Capitol, the State is blocking our efforts this year, citing a new rule (that remains to be seen in any official format). This is disappointing in that Boise Pride has always paid, like other organizations, for the costs associated with lighting the Capitol, and manages the labor as well. Although this was the plan all along, Boise Pride is one of a number of organizations being blocked by a supposed new policy, is unable to meet with the Department of Administration after repeated attempts, and has exhausted all means of proceeding on this visual display of Pride this season and celebrating a 30 year anniversary. Therefore, we have put together a plan to light the Capitol from afar, at an increased cost to Boise Pride, but one justified by the symbolic nature of this act of passion and inclusivity.

We ask that you help us in crowdfunding this measure, which will cost Boise Pride approximately $7,500. If every one of our petition signatures converted to a donation, we would be able to light the Capitol Building this year, inclusive of GoFundMe fees and all associated costs as well as be able to give back to other organizations that is Boise Pride’s mission to support. This is not the ideal route for this expression of our community's Pride, but we consider it a meaningful and significant effort and we must show the State that Boise Pride Will Not Go Dark.
