Mobility service dog Colby for Appalachian Artist

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Jennifer, I have been diagnosed with RSD (Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy which is a progressive nerve disease) and POTS -Postural Othostatic Tachycardia Syndrome-rapid decrease in blood pressure. These conditions have become increasingly problematic. I work as a potter and a Fused Glass Artist, with my work being shown in several galleries. I have spent nearly 35 years volunteering as an EMS, Fire fighter, and in Cave rescue. Recently, I have come to the point in my life that now I need help; I’m only 50 years old and at this point, I need a care giver to leave my home. As a Potter and glass artist a professionally trained service animal would protect me from dangerous falls and allow me to continue my work. Coming to the realization that my condition would worsen I communicated with "Amazing Tails" a service animal 501c3 organization. https://amazingtails.org/ It’s been 4 years now and the specially trained Service Dog is almost ready. His name is Colby, he was picked as a puppy and has been in training for 2 years and is being trained specifically to help protect my life, physical safety and autonomy, allowing me to lead a more independent life (with-out a caregiver). Colbys tasks include mobility support and cardiac alert. His mobility tasks will help with my impaired balance from RSD (Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy) allowing me to safely walk and also to regain my footing after a fall. His cardiac alert task, he will detect a POTS event (Rapid heart rate with decreased blood pressure). Once he recognizes such a condition he will warn me through pawing, nudging me to get my attention and get me to lay down before I lose consciousness to prevent me from getting hurt by falling. He is also trained to respond AFTER a mobility or cardiac event has occurred. His tasks include nosing me over onto my side in a recovery position. Dragging me to a safe spot if I fall into an unsafe area such as a street or stream. Supporting me after I have fallen to get back up. Standing over me if I have fallen so I don’t get stepped on. Lying on my legs to increase my blood pressure during a POTS event. As an Appalachian artist my family and I live month to month. I have saved several thousand dollars toward the funds needed to acquire this uniquely trained dog. Unfortunately, the 2 year Covid lockdown GREATLY reduced our income, and we have been unable to save enough to pay the full amount. What is needed: Currently, everything has raised in price; the total price of Colby is now $12,500, which DOES NOT include the following: a special harness that is fitted to both Colby and I, which is close to $140. In the glass studio, a new special rubber floor (where glass falls in between) needs to be installed and Colby needs rubber shoes, as well as a GPS alert system that will work in our remote location, since cell service is unreliable in our area. It’s really hard to ask and it’s hard to put this out there. However, we need help in approx. $17,000.00 Now that we were able to have our Kiln fixed, "Barefoot Pottery "is back into production! For every donation I receive, I will place the donors name in the hat and every 5 days, (while the fundraiser is in operation) I will draw a name. The recipient will receive a piece of art from us or one of our donors. Your Kindness and contribution Is Greatly Appreciated! Thank you so much for your help.
