MUFC + MCFC Fans Supporting Foodbanks
There are 19 Trussell Trust foodbanks in Greater Manchester, and between them, they handed out more than 110,000 food parcels in the first half of this financial year. 42,000 of those went to feed children. As the COVID-19 pandemic worsens, the foodbanks in our region are already having to make what they have go further than ever – and the situation is getting worse by the day. As people lose their livelihoods and schools begin to close, more and more people will turn to food banks in the absence of adequate government provision. As MUFC Fans' Foodbank & MCFC Fans Foodbank Support we are two groups who are part of the wider Fans Supporting Foodbanks network and collect food on matchdays for Manchester South Central Foodbank & Manchester Central Foodbank respectively. However, with football being put on ice, there is suddenly a big hole in foodbank donations – what’s more, we feel it is no longer enough to only cover the two foodbanks we already support on matchdays. With that in mind, we are calling on all fans/supporters of City and United to get together and help out all of the foodbanks in the Greater Manchester area. Every penny donated to this fund will be split evenly between the 19 Trussell Trusts foodbanks in Greater Manchester. They are:Stockport OldhamRochdaleSalfordTrafford SouthFarmworth and KearsleyTameside EastAtherton & LeighTameside South and LongdendaleStretfordManchester CentralDroylsden and DistrictChorlton and DidsburyFallowfield and WithingtonManchester South CentralMiddleton CentralBurnageWythenshaweIrlam and CadisheadThe operating principle of Fans Supporting Foodbanks is that Hunger Doesn’t Wear Club Colours. We work across club lines – and against tribalism – to help the most vulnerable in our society and communities. It’s not charity, it’s solidarity, and as fan groups from the two biggest clubs in the region we are working together to stand alongside our communities in this difficult time – whether we are Red , Blue or support any other of the Greater Manchester clubs. We will never be able to give everyone in Greater Manchester the help they need, but with your help we can at least try. Thanks in advance,MCFC Fans Foodbank Support and MUFC Fans’ FoodbankMore information about The Trussell Trust: The Trussell Trust, in conjunction with local communities, develops and runs sustainable projects in the UK tackling poverty and exclusion.
