MugStock Needs You

IMPORTANT UPDATE:

Whilst Go Fund Me seemed from our research like a good platform, we have learned that donations made via this site take as long as 45 days to reach our bank account. Instead of donating via this page we are asking supporters to give directly on our website at:

www.mugstock.org/donate

Thanks to everyone who has donated here, there and especially to those who have committed to a monthly donation. It's all beginning to add up, and we've already made a really satisfying dent in our debt.

MugStock needs your help now.

Over the past 4 years MugStock has brought beautiful people like you to Mugdock Country Park to be part of our festival of music & merriment. We are proud to have brought thousands of visitors, and a huge amount of high quality entertainment to this beautiful location: over 800 performances, workshops,  activities and extraordinary occurrences. We have supported Scotland’s events and creative sectors by providing paid work for over 500 Scottish artists, companies and crew, and have brought thousands of visitors to MugStock's local area. The wider economic impact of the festival amounts to at least a million pounds.

Now we need your help following the devastating summer storms which hit us over the weekend of MugStock 2018.

As a not-for profit festival led by volunteers MugStock gained charitable status with the mission to to create a safe, accessible event which anyone can take part in, and help talented emerging artists be seen and heard. With a year-round fundraising effort we have ensured tickets are affordable, have involved and inspired community groups, provided opportunities for vulnerable and disadvantaged individuals including refugees to participate and develop skills, trained young people in preparation for events careers, and improved our beloved Mugdock Country Park. 2016 saw us install new drainage in the park’s Victorian Walled Garden. Festivals provide important, unique experiences for people and we want to be Scotland's most inclusive festival, with as many people as possible and loads of first time festival-goers enjoying MugStock regardless of their circumstances.

MugStock is independent. We have no major sponsors and no wealthy financial backers. As directors of a charity we can’t make money from MugStock, that's not why we do it. As volunteers the team behind MugStock have put in more than a full year (8760 hours) of unpaid work into the festival. All this effort has resulted in more than a quarter of a million of hours of people’s collective enjoyment of the festival.

Festivals generally lose money in their first years, MugStock made a profit in year 2, In our 3rd year a summer of unrelenting rain saw us make a loss but we were able to survive thanks to loans from directors and their families, and the generosity and flexibility of our suppliers. We kept things going using our own funds and continued to work tirelessly around our work and family commitments. We did this because of our belief that MugStock is worthwhile and has the potential to grow and to benefit so many more people. We also couldn’t bear to see countless hardworking contractors, suppliers and artists go unpaid for their parts in making MugStock.

By doing this we made MugStock happen 3 times and looked forward to 2018. Planning went very well, and we saw our best ever advanced ticket sales which predicted a very successful year. Sadly, the weekend itself saw some of the worst weather of 2018 so far with thunder and lightning, huge downpours and dangerously high winds. Festivals and events up and down the country were affected or closed. We had to close a stage at one point for health and safety reasons and saw minimal sales over the weekend itself with many people either staying away or going home to avoid the extreme weather. We also suffered significant vehicle, structure and equipment damage so despite putting on a really well received festival we are left with a large deficit.

So now we are asking you to help. If you have enjoyed being part of MugStock, appreciate how amazingly worthwhile this charity is and could be, would like to see MugStock continue, and you are able, a contribution at this time would be enormously valuable.

Please tell your friends, donate, send messages of support, join our campaign team or simply share this on social media, and help keep the MugStock dream alive.
