Mulago Cancer Care Feeding Programme - Uganda
Donation protected
The Mulago Cancer Care Feeding Programme in Uganda was started by Luis Lechiguero and Sawe Catherine in January 2024.
Their mission is to provide at least one daily meal to over 200 cancer patients.
This project came to be after Luis and Catherine realised that the cancer outpatients and their caretakers who live in tents at a camp behind the hospital while receiving treatment, did not receive basic services like food and potable water unlike the inpatients staying at the hospital. Most patients come from all over the country and have to stay within the camp to receive their treatment, but cannot afford basic necessities like food, medicines, laboratory tests and others. That is why we decided to step in and offer at least one nutritious meal a day.
In the meantime, Majid and Hannah have joined our team, assisting with fundraising, social media and work on the ground.
Since we started on 15 January 2024, with our own resources, we have served over 36 000 meals. Costs for running this programme are 100 USD per day, so 3000 USD per month.
One meal costs 50 cents. With this Gofundme campaign, we are aiming to raise 36 000 USD so as to cover the meals for a whole year and keep this programme alive and if possible expanding to cover other needs. Every donation counts!
We also encourage donors and the public in general to visit the camp and volunteer in the serving and interact with the patients. Mweebale nnyo, mwebalire ddala!
