Mums & children matter

Donation protected
Beatrice Guessie would like you to take this opportunity to wish a great Merry Christmas.

I would also like you to support Mums&ChildrenMatter by making a donation and spreading the word to our network and family.

Imagine spending this Christmas alone, sad, frightened and frustrated and feeling unable to fully provide for your family..... many of the people we work with will have this kind of Christmas.

Light in the Darkness exists to provide a service to women and families experiencing abuse, trauma, discrimination and experiencing mental health difficulties  in and around  Manchester

We aim to support families who have faced extreme trauma and hardship to overcome their difficulties through positive peer support, constructive help from people with life experience and help to access personal development activities and work experience opportunities.

We have a positive impact on people’s mental health, reduce the isolation and stigma which many of the people who have faced extreme trauma experience and we help women who have had their children taken into care to remain with their families long term.

We provide an independent, but specialized service to Women and to professionals, to support the eradication of abuse and discrimination at all levels.

We aim to equip women with tools to help reduce the risk of harm to support their transition and development.

WHY WE ARE ASKING FOR YOUR HELP…………

We are looking to create a family festive experience for highly deprived children and families torn apart through trauma, abuse, and separation through the care system.

All of the children are from families living in poverty and with families – mothers in particular, who have faced trauma and have mental health support needs as well as living in financial crisis.
We aim to put on two Christmas/festive celebrations for the following group categories:

- Firstly, a group of diverse and isolated African families living in the Wythenshawe area. This will create space to discuss new ideas and ways to support each other. We are expecting more than 50 people (parents and children) at this event.

- Secondly, a group of vulnerable mothers and children where some children have been taken into care, or who are experiencing mental health, domestic violence, abuse, and isolation. Without this event, the children are unlikely to have a positive experience this Christmas and mothers and children will be left feeling isolated, guilty and alone.

We are already in contact with several families in difficult situations and aim to use the event to build a peer support network and develop ideas for ways this group can remain positive and support each other in difficult times – overcoming language barriers, mental health problems, family crisis and dealing with the criminal justice and social care systems.

We are looking to run fun, inclusive and exciting activities for the children whilst create space for the parents to gain support.  We plan to get, buy and collect gifts via donations to make a special Christmas / festive season for them and leave some happy positive memories where these have been lacking, due to living in hardship.

WHAT YOUR DONATION AND HELP WILL PAY FOR………

£1200 will pay for food, refreshments, entertainment, decorations and materials for 2 festive events in Manchester (one for the wider community and one for the mothers with children in care/in needs)

£300 will cover room hire for the events

£1500 will help us collect and distribute Christmas gifts ensuring no parent who is part of our family network will be left alone and isolated unable to connect to their child this Christmas.

£1500 will help us run a series of Monthly Peer support groups following on from the festive events, to ensure vulnerable mothers are supported and better able to access the physical and emotional support they need.

Every penny counts and helps towards reaching our £5000.00 total.

Let work collaboratively for our community, please help.

TOGETHER WE ARE STRONGER BUT DIVIDED, WE FALL.
