Mural Assistant/Painter

The task of restoring the beloved Southwest Museum of the American Indian in Highland Park, CA, originally painted by artist Daniel Cervantes about 16 years ago which was totally obliterated by graffiti and later "buffed out by local city workers is a major undertaking, but the community loved this mural so much that they organized to have it back. 

Much work has already been done to remove the years of buff and graffiti to begin the restoration, and we are now in the process of re-painting the mural. 

I am Pola Lopez, the artist that was contracted to re-paint the mural and bring it back to life from hibernation. The wall is approximately 170 feet long and 8 feet tall, so this is quite a job for just one artist.  I am therefore raising funds to be able to hire another artist to assist with the work.  The work is in process now, so the funds are needed immediately because the mural is vulnerable to more graffiti as it is being painted since the protective coating can not be applied until the whole wall is completely painted.  The more painters on the wall the faster the work will be completed.

The work is difficult because the intent is to repaint the mural in the same hand, style and color palette as the original artist, which makes it more time consuming to complete. What is required is an artist who can complete these challenges. 

I would be extremely grateful for the assistance and from my observation of the support and emotional attachment to this mural, the Highland Park and surrounding communities would also be appreciative since the work is symbolic to the history and identity of this community.  To preserve this mural is very important to the heart of this area and the people that live here.
