Hello and thank you for joining the peace project! My name is Christine Olshan and I am here to introduce an amazing artist, Alloyius Mcilwaine, to share his unique and profound expression of colors with our community in Meshoppen, PA.
THE MURAL:
The mural will blend local Iroquois heritage with elements of black culture into a unique celebration of the need for local diversity and greater social discourse in Meshoppen. It will depict "Deganawida , “The Great Peacemaker,” also known as the legendary leader and founder of the Iroquois Nation, alongside an artistic rendering of the modern black human. Through symbols of unity and peace, the mural will acknowledge the Iroquois people and their indigenous way of life, as well as the systemic oppression of black lives in modern society, of which the latter may resonate as a reflection/extension of the former. It will also include positive quotes such as unity and solidarity to shed light on those who were less fortunate, built on systems of oppression where in hopes we can evolve to become equal in all aspects of life, less discrimination towards all walks of life, expressing the need to end racism peacefully, and acceptance of the idea that, though much of our society is built on these systems, they can still change, and that change begins locally, on the grassroots level. Most importantly, this mural should help us realize that change can happen with a strong community; together in solidarity – it should begin with artistry, beauty, and compassion.
Examples include "Love, Light, and hope"
WHAT IS THIS CAUSE FOR?:
This fundraiser will generate proceeds for the talented artist, covering his travel, paint costs, the hours of hard work, and our gratitude for his help in creating something beautiful for Meshoppen. This cause is to UNITE us. I believe this can truly bring happiness to those of us living here, and I hope you consider it an exciting change, a step toward bringing awareness of the cultures that made this land what it is today.
GOAL:
The goal here is to raise enough before mid September to cover the artist’s expenses. We want to make sure we can properly organize this mural, with care and with enough material to cover the rock.

Alloyius Mcilwaine is an American artist, born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. He has been passionate about the arts since childhood, painting and drawing on a daily basis since age 3 in a style that flows with his own desires, working without any preconceived ideas. His fascination with comic books – which developed his sensibility for the type of colors, shapes, textures and compositions he is best known for – instilled a devotion to the faithful and diligent reproduction of details on the smallest level. His artistic language lies between figuration and abstraction, incorporating elements from both urban and pop art while still remaining resolutely free and contemporary. Whether he is working on canvas or on walls, Alloyius spontaneously and naturally takes pleasure in coating surfaces with large colored planes, giving rise to pictorial, and extremely dynamic creations. Now, he is widely regarded as a jack-of-all trades in the art world, known for his clothing line, photography, and murals across the globe. He has painted in 17 US states, in places like Japan, Paris, London, Costa Rica, Casablanca, Ontario Canada, and now our town of Meshoppen in mid-September.
He has also covered a large number of public and private, and facades all around his native country with his unique signature. This artist is as enthusiastic as he is passionate, and likes to create his work with bright and joyful splashes of color in mind.
FROM THE ARTIST:
"When I began my career as a professional artist, I logged in countless hours experimenting with various mediums and forms of art. I worked with watercolor, acrylic, oil, charcoal, and even tried my hand at sculpture. While I absolutely loved learning a variety of styles and processes, I was still trying to recapture some sense of that pure serendipity that I found in art as a child. I decided early on in my career as a street artist/muralist that I would freestyle the majority of my pieces. Fueled by creativity, I wanted to develop my work on site, without any preconceived notions of the outcome. With these abstract, freestyled murals, I rediscovered that sense of serendipity. There was a freedom in allowing my art to be the conduit for the ideas and emotions that flowed through me. Over time, I realized that I was developing a kind of visual language with these freestyled pieces. I felt that this visual language was worth further exploration, and I fine-tuned it into the style that I use today."-Alloyius Mcilwaine
GRATITUDE
We cannot thank you all enough for your generous and enthusiastic willingness to support this cause. Please, if you support us, donate or share this with others who might want to contribute to the mural as well. Every penny, every human body that gives, will make a huge impact. Alloyius already feels so welcomed and honored to be giving his art work to our community, which will serve to keep us together and maintain peace in our neighborhood.
