Sam Paolini's Mural Mission

Donation protected
I am on a mission to paint murals across America. I want to participate in underground arts communities like my own at home, while exploring the country, sharing my work, and challenging myself artistically. My goal is to share my experiences at Wrong Brain while learning from other DIY arts groups, creating and giving my art away, and meeting people with the same passion for local alternative arts and community.

I am an artist, teacher and community organizer from Dover, New Hampshire. I run Wrong Brain, a nonprofit arts group aimed to provide opportunities for unconventional and under-represented arts through publications, exhibitions, lectures, workshops, craft fairs, public arts projects, CD compilations and more. I have helped publish 20 zines and comix, host over 100 events, and boasted participants in the thousands. I am crowdsourcing so I can offer my services to small, DIY and nonprofit organizations for free or in exchange for housing and food. I want to share my artwork and knowledge of community organizing and publishing, while learning from other groups along the way. I believe that DIY and underground creative groups are the heart of our culture and a vital support network for the underdogs of the establishment.
I'll be documenting my adventure on paper, to create a zine that will illustrate my personal experiences and artwork, but also highlight the unique communities and people who host me. I hope to provide networking for other creatives who want to participate in independent, activist creative communtities across the states; inspire artists to be self-reliant, motivated, and reach out to their peers; and show appreciation for the volunteers who spend countless hours providing space and opportunities for emerging and underground creative people to share their work. The funds I raise will go towards travel costs, gas, and emergency repair fund. Any extra money will go towards printing zines and shirts to bring on the road, art materials and tools. While I ask that our hosts donate some larger materials (gallons of paint, rollers and pans, buckets, rags, drop cloths), I will be bringing smaller, more managable materials in the car: brushes, paint markers, sketchbooks, painter's tape, etc.

Each place I visit, I'll paint a mural on whatever surface offered: wall, banner, panel, staircase, floor, furniture, etc! At the choice of my hosts, I'll also provide: public lectures and Q and A's about my artwork, Mural Mission, community organizing, publishing, or illustrating; community collaborations; workshops; interviews; and live viewing of myself painting. Each destination and community has different needs and limitations, so I am flexible with my Mission to each place. Community participation, outreach, and education will be my priorities; alongside expanding my individual artistic abilities, style and content through the adventure.~ The Tour, still booking!~
