FUNDRAISER FOR PUBLIC ART IN PUNJABI MARKET!
Through our partnership with Vancouver Mural Festival, we're aiming to bring outdoor public murals to Punjabi Market this August to help facilitate storytelling along with discussions on racism and discrimination through public art by collaborating with local BIPOC artists. The addition of the murals will not only help beautify the neighbourhood, but will help bring much-needed foot traffic back into the market to support local businesses through the pandemic.
The money raised here will go directly to the Punjabi Market Regeneration Collective and will be put towards Murals in the Market. Every dollar helps! Please help spread the word.
Founded on May 31st, 1970, Vancouver’s Punjabi Market was the very first South Asian Market in North America. From humble beginnings, Main Street transformed into a cultural hub and was home to the first Punjabi-language street signs outside of Asia. The Punjabi Market Regeneration Collective is a registered non-profit working towards revitalizing Punjabi Market by beautifying the market, developing & promoting businesses and creating a hub for arts and culture.
On May 31, 2020, we celebrated the 50th anniversary via a digital livestream. Hosted by Hockey Night in Canada Punjabi's Amrit Gill, featuring poetry, musical performances, and interviews with broadcasting pioneer Shushma Datt and business owners Harinder Singh Toor, Sucha Singh Claire and Harbans Kaur Claire. Watch the film by Inder Nirwan
