Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women Campaign

Donation protected
Due to COVID-19, the Colorado College Cross Country and Track teams have not been able to compete in normal season competition since early March of 2020.

During this atypical competition year, our team has decided that we want to increase our community service and engagement by running with a cause. We will be fundraising for the Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women Campaign supported by Native Womens Wilderness and Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women USA. This campaign functions to raise awareness for the staggering numbers of Native Women who are murdered every year and to work towards a future where Native Women are safe. More information on these organizations can be found at: https://www.nativewomenswilderness.org/mmiw
and https://mmiwusa.org/mmiw-stories.html

Native Womens Wilderness focuses much of their work on their main mission which is “To inspire and raise the voices of Native Women in the Outdoor Realm. To encourage a healthy lifestyle grounded in the Wilderness. To educate Natives and non-Natives on the rich beauty and heritage of the Ancestral Lands beneath our feet.” Through various community groups, outdoor leadership trainings, wilderness trip experiences and other avenues, NWW accomplishes this mission. NWW also uses their platform to support the larger movement to call attention to the staggering numbers of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and support the larger MMIW campaign. We are thrilled to be able to support all of the work NWW strives to accomplish, but we acknowledge that our fundraising mission aligns more specifically with the larger MMIW campaign that they support. In order to utilize the funds we raise to directly support the Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women broader campaign, we have decided to donate 50% of our raised funds to Native Womens Wilderness and 50% to the nonprofit Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women USA. MMIWUSA advocates for the safety and rights of indigenous women while also bringing more awareness to the unnecessary harm currently occurring to this population.

The CC XC and Track team fundraiser will occur on November 7th, 2020. Cross country and track athletes will run for 1 hour on 11/7 and log the number of miles they complete in this timeframe.
You can support an individual athlete by pledging to donate a certain amount per mile that the athlete runs during the 60 minutes. The athlete will contact you by November 8th to let you know how many miles they ran and to help you calculate how much to donate to this GoFundMe page based on your pledge. If you prefer not to donate per mile, flat donations are also welcome!

The fundraiser will close on November 14th and updates on the amount raised as well as confirmation of the donation will be shared on the social media platforms for the Colorado College Cross Country and Track teams.

On behalf of the CC Cross Country and Track Teams, we appreciate any amount you can contribute to the larger MMIW campaign. If you are unable to contribute at this time, please consider sharing this fundraiser with your network to increase awareness of Native Womens Wilderness and Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women USA  and to help us reach and hopefully surpass our fundraising goal!
