Murdered During Migration
Donation protected
Hello, I'm Augustin Lorfils. I was born in Freeport, Bahamas, to Haitian parents Dumercy and Eliame Lorfils. I'm the second of seven siblings. Like many migrants worldwide, my parents sought a better life, eventually making their way to the United States.
At the age of five, my father embarked on a perilous journey aboard a cold and crowded migrant boat to Miami with my sister Erma and me, leaving my mother and siblings in the Bahamas behind. Two years later, my mother and siblings attempted the same journey, but tragedy struck as they were forced off the boat at gunpoint by smugglers, resulting in their tragic deaths. I was just eight years old when the news broke about a Haitian woman drowning at sea with her five children, off the coast of West Palm Beach.
The devastating news of my mother and siblings' deaths, forever altered the course of my life. Their memory weighed so heavily; I was unable and unwilling to talk about it, now, I'm on a mission to honor them. We hope to provide the gravestones my mother and siblings deserve. But we can't do it alone. Your donation can ensure that their legacy lives on and is never forgotten.
By contributing to this cause, you're helping me honor my family's memory and recognize the struggles of countless immigrant families worldwide. Your support will make a meaningful difference in my life and in preserving the legacy of my loved ones.
Please donate today and be a part of this heartfelt tribute.
