A Fund for Murdoch McSween's Healing Journey

Donation protected

On Friday July 9th 2021, Murdoch William Blair McSween had a tragic accident resulting in multiple injuries including a brain injury, neck fracture, broken ribs and fingers and multiple internal organ injuries. Murdoch is currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Montreal General Hospital, intubated and sedated at this point in his recovery to allow his body time to heal. However, his rehabilitation will be a long journey including hospitalization and various ongoing therapies.

Murdoch’s medical team at Montreal General say he is doing well, but he could be in the ICU for an extended period of time, before he can be transferred to the Neurology or Acute Care unit for further recovery. According to his doctor, Murdoch will need ongoing physiotherapy for an undetermined period of time.

Murdoch relocated to Montreal last year following his passion for creativity and expression to a city just as bold and vibrant as he is. For those of you who know Murdoch, you will agree he is strong, determined and optimistic, and we know he has the will-power to make a full recovery, in time.

Murdoch’s mum, Jackie, and his two siblings Lizzie,  and Mark have already travelled from Vancouver, and sister Alexandra from Ottawa to Montreal and are now by his side. Due to unforeseen circumstances, his dad, Garth will be joining the family as soon as possible, from Vancouver. Jackie is staying in Montreal indefinitely to care for Murdoch. His siblings and dad will be travelling back and forth to support him as well.

Both Jackie and Garth have had to drastically reduce their workloads and therefore their incomes, additionally, neither have extended health benefits. Also, there have been, and will continue to be, costs for flights and other expenses for the family to travel to Montreal, accommodations in Montreal as well as paying rent and bills at home in Vancouver and for Murdoch’s apartment for the time being. It goes without saying that meals, car rental, gas and all the other little expenses that come with being away from home for an extended period of time really add up.

Murdoch does have Quebec health care coverage, but we are unsure of the coverage for ongoing physiotherapy after his release from hospital and he does not have extended benefits either. We also do not know at this point what aids or mobility devices will be needed in the future.

Worrying about money when your son is in the ICU is the last thing anyone needs, and so we created this GoFundMe to aid Murdoch’s family while they support him in his recovery across the country.

A huge thank you to the ICU Team at Montreal General, they have been amazing in so many ways. Dr. Hornstein and the team have also set up a digital journal for Murdoch; you can send a note or photos via email to icu998266(@)post. penzu. com (no spaces/brackets) to help remind him of this recovery journey, motivate him to keep fighting and make him laugh.

Thank you to family and friends who have supported and assisted us during this heartbreaking time. Please pray for Murdoch and send positive light and energy that he will recover quickly. Any financial support is appreciated more than you will ever know. We will do our best to provide updates on Murdoch’s progress as you hold him in your hearts.

Thank You, The McSween Family

**For any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Murdoch's Aunt Natalie through this fundraiser, in order to maintain the family's privacy at this time.
