Janis Pettit's Story

Hi our names are Susan Duba and Terry Bankson friends of Janis Pettit. We are organizing this fundraiser to help Janis live her best life despite her Parkinson's and Dementia conditions.

Janis's Story

To the Family, Friends, Coworkers and Neighbors of Janis Pettit.

As you may know, Janis has always been a very independent person; born and raised in Bakersfield California. As a young adult she worked with tech companies in the Bay Area and more recently as a Human Resource manager for a Real Estate Company in Santa Barbara. Janis enjoyed her career, however, she has since retired due to the advancement of Parkinson’s. Janis was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2011 and early dementia in 2021. As both of these lifelong diseases progress, life has become much more challenging for both her and her husband Christian Martinez. Janis has difficulty walking, talking, eating, sleeping, and has memory impaired issues.

Christian is the sole caregiver 24/7. We know most of you will understand how difficult that can be as many of us have taken care of a family member or friend.

Christian’s wishes are to build a new handicap shower in their home to ensure Janis safety, a wheelchair ramp on the outside of their home for her to enter and exit easier and a ramp to get her into their van to make daily outings easier. Just as important Christian needs to have help come to their home to help with Jan and someone to stay over a night or two so Christian can have a break once in a while so that he can give her his full attention when he is with her.
