Music Education in Memory of Dorrie Duck
All who knew Dorrie experienced first hand her love for music, her gift for caring for others and her passion for adventure.
It was impossible to be in her presence and not feel her warmth, light, strength and humor cast in your direction. Through coaching soccer, being an aid to children from all walks of life and fiercely supporting her kiddos (including my brother and I, her nieces and nephews, our friends, her students and endless ‘kids‘ of all ages she met during her journey) Dorrie was a Mama Duck, and when necessary, a Mama Bear.
In her home there was always a candle lit and music playing. Dorrie could be found singing, dancing to Steely Dan, cooking, writing, reading, meditating, playing games and laughing. She taught her children that music has the power to unite people, bring joy and spark creativity. She had a passion for learning, there were no silly questions and no concrete answers, only conversations, curiosities, explorations and growth.
Of all the places Dorrie explored in her years traveling around this incredible country, New Orleans held a special place in her heart. The music, food, people and soul of the city captivated her. Exploring New Orleans with her was a gift we will hold onto forever.
Dorrie was a loyal friend, an incredible mother, a loving wife, a passionate educator, an exceptional judge of character, an avid traveler, a free spirit and much, much more. Her way of seeing and experiencing this world was unique. We know Dorrie would love to share the gift of music and learning with these children, and would be even more excited to hear their stories, see them find joy and share their magic with the world.
Thank you for being a part of something beautiful.
