Reaching Remote Aboriginal Communities with Music
Hi, Rob Brown here with my good friend Steve Woods who is a music teacher at an Aboriginal School 6 hours out of Perth, Australia. Here is a short interview with us both to talk about this project.
Steve has been a friend, mentor and inspiration to me for over 30 years, and through my accounting podcasts and community events, I'm committed to helping him raise much-needed funds for his work out there. Most of the families of the students Steve teaches live in broken communities, where drugs and alcohol are a means to hide from reality.
Music becomes the only thing they feel they are good at which gives them joy, hope and allows them to dream again. Taking them out to play to other broken communities allows them to learn they have something to offer. This adds huge value to their identity. Socially, they love to hang out with other communities too, so the impact these ‘on the road’ trips are having is huge.
Steve's work with the poor spans over twenty years, and he has spent many years in Hong Kong working with some of the poorest addicts to give them hope and a future. He is passionate about what he is doing for the sake of a generation who are desperate to find their voice and make a stand for what is good.
Any funds you decide to give will go towards musical and sound equipment, cases to keep it safe traveling on dirt roads, and petrol to cover the huge distances involved. Thank you for your consideration and potential contribution to help this life changing experience. To help you decide how many Aus dollars to donate, $1Aus is just over 50p or 75c.
As a guide, podcast guests have contributed $100-500 in the past. For participants on our AIR Time calls, the average is $30.
Thanks for being a blessing and making a difference.
Rob Brown
