Musicians Touch the Memory Strings of Seniors
Tax deductible
Hi,
“Music is making inroads into nursing homes and facilities that serve people with dementia.” The medical world
says so!
We are Educational Arts Society, a 501 c 3 nonprofit. This fundraiser seeks to supply monthly "live" music concerts
to senior homes and nursing facilities. In so doing, the participants will be retired and laid-off musicians and students seeking
summer jobs.
Imagine your father, mother, grandfather or grandmother living in a nursing facility or senior home lingering
between reality and nonreality, pleasant memories and dementia or loneliness to despair! Socialization is at a
human low. Sitting alone in a hallway or room where visitation only happens with a nurse administering the next pill or shot, seniors suffer in silence. Some, however, struggle to share their thoughts, shed bitter tears and scream with physical and mental pain . . . but no one listens . . . no one comes . . . no one seems to care.
Seniors not suffering from dementia know . . . the world is waiting for them to die. What a disturbing mental
atmosphere to breathe!
But. . .what if every month, they could look for a music performance where they could mingle with other residents, laugh and hear songs that take them back to a time when “life was good, life was enjoyable?”
Research reveals that music improves memory, increases social skills, and assists in regaining confidence. Also, studies show that music causes a “decline in behavioral problems and the use of antipsychotic drugs.” People tend to respond positively when they are happy. A startling revelation to many is, the medical world admits that “pain is both physical and psychological.” So, music relieving residents from stress, mental anguish, loneliness and restoring
them to “happy times,” is a win-win for everyone! Most importantly . . . your loved one.
You can do this! Help to make things better! A monthly donation of ($19) or one-time donation of your choice, will bring musicians into several nursing facilities in the Detroit Metropolitan Area.
Educational Arts Society is connected with many retired or laid-off musicians who are struggling to survive. Additional monthly stipends can help provide sustainable income, boost morale, the knowledge that they are helping others and help defray their medical costs. Many have no medical insurance. Your donation will touch the lives of both
musician and resident! Make a decision now!
Students bring re-vitalization to the hearts and minds of seniors! They bring to a facility what no one else can.
Youthfulness! Have you heard that association rubs off? It does! Having a young musician or dancer perform for
residents can only brighten their lives. Let’s combine youth and maturity!
Working together, we can give a teen a summer job! This could be the first job the kid has ever had! Let him/her enjoy making a viable contribution not only to himself/herself, but society as well. He or she will emerge with
increased self-esteem, renewed self-expression, financial assistance to their households and increased
socialization.
