Recollecting WW1 Muslim archives
Donation protected
This project will promote social cohesion by building bridges of dialogue, peace and mutual respect between people of all faiths and none, cultures and nations.
The Forgotten Heroes 14-19 Foundation is building the most comprehensive archive of the contributions that Muslims from around the world made to the history of Europe in the First World War – and we need your support.
We have discovered approx. 850,000 unique documents, including photographs, audio and video fragments, field reports, personal diaries, and letters that didn’t make it home.
With your donations, we will:
- collate all of these documents in one location
- create a permanent, undeniable record of the positive contributions that Muslims and others made to the history of Europe
- create an open, accessible archive for schools, universities, researchers, historians, academics and others for the benefit of the public
This project is valuable today because it will:
- preserve and retell a forgotten, but significant part of world history
- ensure that our children, grandchildren, and their children, will learn a true account of history
- show the diversity in the effort and commitment of people of all faiths, cultures and nations in WW1
- reverse the ill-informed narrative that Muslims haven’t contributed to the history of Europe
- challenge the “clash of civilisations” narrative espoused by far-right and ‘religious’ extremists
- give confidence to youth of all faiths and none to challenge far-right, xenophobic, anti-Muslim and anti-immigrant narratives by equipping them with the positive truths of our shared history and sacrifice
- promote social cohesion by building bridges of dialogue, peace and mutual respect between people of all faiths, cultures and nations
By preserving the archives, we will prove:
- the interfaith solidarity, mutual respect and admiration that soldiers of different faiths and none had for one another
Preserve the legacy of our unknown heroes. Donate today and share this campaign. Thank you.
