Mutual Aid Fund to Help Copycat Tenants Move
Donation protected
The most commonly asked question the tenants of the Copycat hear from reporters, social media commenters, and anyone else following the story is "Why don't you just move?"
The answer is "We can't!"
The tenants currently facing evictions have nowhere to go and no resources to get there. Those facing eviction include the entire remaining trans community in the building, numerous working class artists, and many artists of color. Most do not have families to ask for help, and were the worst hit by the fallout from the pandemic. They are in dire financial straits.
With evictions looming, these tenants need your help to find new homes, so the Copycat Tenants Union is fundraising to help them. Our goal is to raise $1,000 per tenant. This money will primarily go towards deposits and rent on new housing for them. Any additional funds will go towards moving costs like U-Hauls, moving supplies, and assistance for tenants who can't manage their move on their own.
We plan to split whatever money is raised among all tenants evenly. If some tenants find additional resources and don't need their portion of the GoFundMe, that portion will be redistributed to those in need.
Thank you all for supporting us thus far, it has been a long journey and we couldn't have done it without you. We will continue to update y'all as we go forward.
