Mutual Aid Request: Family Reunification
Donation protected
Help a formerly-incarcerated Indigenous man reunite with his teen son.
Allistair has been separated from his 15-year-old son for a period of 13 years (despite a 3-day visit in 2022), 11 years of which he was incarcerated. This prolonged separation has been heart-wrenching for both father and son. Allistair has been coordinating a trip for his son to come visit him in February/March 2024. Unfortunately, the funding for this trip has recently fallen through. Given that his son needs to travel from Nunavut to Victoria, BC, the associated costs are high, with round-trip flights starting at $4,500. Allistair is now in a bind where he has promised his son this visit, but faces no financial means to do so.
Over the past two years, Allistair has maintained steady full-time work. However, with the high cost of living in Victoria BC, there is hardly any extra cash available to contribute to travel. Allistair has also been furthering his education through professional development, and courses relating to mental health, lateral violence, healthy communication, and conflict management. He has been learning more about his Inuit culture and hopes to pass along this cultural knowledge to his son.
Allistair’s son is one of the most important things in the world to him. Thank you for taking the time to hear about his story. Any contributions towards this reunification trip are immensely appreciated.
