My baby Molly bird is sick and needs special care

Donation protected
I've never done this before and those that know me, know that I don't like asking for help but...my beloved Molly bird is very ill. Early July, this 25 year old sweet birdie started having voice changes and some coughing and wheezing. She was initially treated on broad spectrum antibiotics for several weeks, but, they weren't doing much. Soon her symptoms turned into rapid breathing and stridor all day and all night long. It was terrible having to hear her basically suffocate trying to get air, but not being able to do much to alleviate it.

After six different vet visits, it was determined she might have a tracheal blockage. As avian care is so specific and specialized, unfortunately Calgary didn't have the equipment or expertise to provide her with an endoscope surgery...so off we drove to Vancouver to get specialized care, which resulted in a 16 hour drive, with stops along the way to nebulize (aerosolize) Molly's medications in a box to decrease the mucous build up in her airway.

Molly was able to have the necessary surgery she needed (unbelievable!) and they removed a large mass from her trachea that nearly blocked her whole airway. She did amazing in the surgery (despite all the stress on her little heart from struggling to breathe for a week and being handled excessively by various vets). To be honest, I'm surprised she even made it this far and didn't die from asphyxiation or heart attack. It's been such an emotional roller-coaster of fear, uncertainty, helplessness and anger of dealing with her illness and care.

While her breathing is now better, it's been determined that what was removed from her throat was a fungal plaque (Aspergillus), which is very difficult to treat in parrots and treatment is long-term (6-12 months, or a lifetime). The antifungal medication costs about $250-300/month. She also has concurrent bacterial infections and has lost a substantial amount of weight. It will be a long road to recovery and she does not willingly accept medications so she has to be restrained in a towel to get them (a 2 person job). Round the clock care for her.

I'm super grateful she is still alive and again, shocked she has made it this far. Molly's a feisty little fighter and still has many more years to live. With everything we've been through over the last month (exams, bloodwork, x rays, ultrasound, surgery, biopsies, medications, travelling and accommodations), we have acquired a few hefty unplanned for bills, with more to come considering her long term treatment with the expensive antifungal, Vorconazole.
We are reaching out now after the major chaos, hoping we can alleviate some of the financial burden through the kindness of generous donors who love birdies too and understand the importance and bond of an animal family member <3 Any support is appreciated - thank you so much!
