My Bat Mitzvah Project: Helping The Pacific Ocean

The GPGP, or Great Pacific Garbage Patch is a patch located in the Pacific ocean. Since 1970, scientists have studied this area of water that is 3 times the size of France, and holds over 1.8 trillion pieces of plastic. Because of this, the Ocean Cleanup Crew has worked on trying to decrease the amount of plastic in the ocean by dragging nets into the ocean in order to pick up and study what kinds of plastic are floating in our oceans. The Cleanup crew has also made aircrafts that can scan a 3D shape of large debris in the water and can calculate it’s mass. It is estimated that by 2050, there could be as many pieces of plastic as there are fish in the ocean, so this will be a BIG PROBLEM!!!

I'm raising money for my Bat Mitzvah Project, to benefit The Ocean Cleanup North Pacific Foundation, and any donation will help make an impact.  They have been creating ways to reduce the amount of plastic in the pacific ocean for a long time, and have reduced some, but more and more has been found.  Due to this much plastic waste, animals and plants have been getting tangled or trapped in our trash, which hurts, and possibly kills them. This also effects the water we drink and the water we wash ourselves with (freshwater from lakes).
