My best friend IS homeless...

EMERGENCY as of yesterday.
Thank you so much for reading! I'm Lauren (grey shirt) and that's my best friend Shana (green shirt).
I do not come to you with a light heart. My heart is so heavy. I studied poverty in my master's and I can't even help keep my friend off the streets
Shana's compassion and caring nature saved my life. Literally. I've made multiple attempts and Shana has been there every time. And now I'm asking all of you to help me save not just her, but her dogs too!
Legally, she should've had until the 8/16 to vacate in peace. Which we *thought* we were on a good trajectory toward meeting that goal after finding a place Thursday that was *mostly* ready for immediate move in. Turns out, we got SCAMMED.
ALL the money we raised was used for a security deposit and first months rent, and a credit toward next months rent (in good faith, because he was allowing the dogs) We're beyond devestated. This was supposed to be her saving grace.
Somehow, the number of injustices she has encountered through this process, keeps on growing. It began with her missing one month's rent, due to being sick with covid for the last two weeks of the previous month. They used her non-payment as an opportunity to kick her out, even though she has been a great tenant for 5 years.
Since we thought we had found the perfect place, we already had picked up a uhaul Thurday evening. Thank goodness we did or we wouldnt have been able to get her dogs out! The police were gonna take them to the pound if we couldn't get them all out with us! The process was emotionally exhausting and utterly heartbreaking.
Shana works full time and hustles on the side. Still. She doesn't have a lot of money as she doesn't currently make a livable wage (like so many others). To make matters more difficult, out here, the minimum she can afford DOES NOT match what she has available to her.
She's also a certified dog trainer and has rescued several dogs over the years. She currently has 4 rescue mutts (her favorite breed!), Teddy, Shenzi, Banzai and Bromo. Having dogs makes it difficult because one rotten egg (tenant) unfortunately spoils the batch (landlords being very wary of any pets at all).
Right now she works as a Manager of B2B Sales full-time and makes custom jewelry as a silver-smith on the side.
She's feisty. Stubborn as fuck. She has borderline personality disorder, like me. She loves hard and fast. She trusts people. Believes in the stars and just wants everyone to be able to live, laugh and love.
Will you help me help her? Or will you stand by and let another homeless person get lost in the broken system?
She IS approved to get money from the Open doors program in NC. I'm worried they WONT process her application and provide the money in time to secure a place. Or that we won't find a landlord willing to be patient with the DSS process.
Thank you so much for reading! Thank you all who have already donated. We're so beyond grateful at your generosity!
Even just a $1 can make a difference.
They really do add up!
