my body is a temple and time is its iconoclast

Hi friends, it's Micah.
The last time I had a medical GoFundMe was for my top surgery in 2022, where we managed to rescue my nipples from being put in a medical incinerator. I don’t really have a cute gimmick this time around. 2023 was pretty rough financially, psychologically, and physically, but we’re also in the timeline where that’s true for just about everyone I know.
Around last September a bunch of long-neglected health stuff started coming due at once—I had a bunch of dental work done, I had to get my top surgery scar revised because it refused to fully close for over a year, and I also ended up in the emergency room twice (once on my literal birthday, and once a few days before Halloween) with ovarian torsion. The latter was the only time I've ever hit a 9 on the pain scale; I was literally begging the doctors to sedate me. (They wouldn't; a friend came to my hospital room and—at my behest—read me Chick tracts so I could yell about the bad theology while full of morphine. Spiritual care looks different for everyone, okay?)
Anyway. So. Ovarian torsion. Yes, it's the Gender™️ version of that one episode of Venture Brothers with the candiru fish. It's rare to begin with—a 2015 study estimates that it affects about 6 out of every 100,000 people with uteruses every year, and it's even rarer for people who've had a hysterectomy, such as yours truly. So, naturally, being a consummate overachiever, I managed to have it happen twice in two months.
tl;dr I'm getting one of my ovaries removed on January 24th. Turns out you can do just fine with only one, and I'm not going to need HRT unless my left ovary also decides to go rogue at a future point.* The money I'm raising here is going towards...
- ✨ (DONE!) About $4K of funds raised went towards paying off two emergency room bills. Shout-out to the friends who came to visit me in the ER and learned much more about my nude form and the wide range of interesting screams I can produce under duress than they might have bargained for. My reproductive anatomy is basically a farce whose humor I am not privy to, simply the locus thereof.
- ✨ (DONE!) About $2K of funds raised went towards paying off some much needed dental work. We live in a hellscape where teeth are basically luxury bones, and the chronic depression of my 20s has turned into my mouth becoming a landscape of horrors in my 30s.
- (PENDING) About $1K of this is going towards tracking down some much needed therapy. Some of this is finding a physical therapist to start working on fixing some joint pain and mobility issues, some of this is finding mental health practitioners who can deal with a bunch of deprecated trauma responses, some of it is just handing a massage therapist friend a stack of bills and going “my safeword is ‘Ithaca.’”
- (PENDING) About $6K of this is going towards covering costs of surgery because I'm not sure how my insurance is going to handle this. Whatever I manage to raise after dealing with the big bills is going towards food and rent and spoiling my cat and getting me back to regularly lifting at Bay Strength and probably getting a sweet spayed animal indicator tattoo over the removed ovary.
Thank you for reading, and I'm hoping for brighter days ahead.
* The irony of which does not escape me!
