My Brother is in the ICU Burn Unit at U of M

My name is Stephanie, and I retired last year after over 18 years in the fire service as an EMS Lieutenant, Firefighter, and EMT. On January 2nd, 2024, my baby brother Taylor Amo's home caught fire on Dennis Street in Adrian, Michigan. The house was split into 4 apartments, and his apartment was the one where the fire started. He was taken emergently to the U of M ICU Burn Unit. He has severe burns to his entire face, neck, chest, head, scalp, lower back, feet, hands, and eyes. He has been sedated, intubated, and on a ventilator since his arrival at U of M. He is having grafting, surgeries, and debridements daily. He is now fighting an infection as well. He has a very, very long road ahead of him, and the Doctor is guessing about a year total, then intensive OT and PT. He lost everything in the fire.
Taylor has 2 kids that he loves more than anything, and has them every other day. They are 5 and 3. Thankfully they were not there that night, but everything they owned is gone now as well. We were, however, able to save his 2 beloved kittens, and they are safe with me.
Taylor is the sweetest and most giving person. He has been dealt a pretty hard card in life, and even at his lowest points, he would still give you his last dollar, his couch to sleep on, or the shirt off his back. He was finally at a point in his life where he felt he was on top of the world. He loves my kids like they were his own. He is the strongest person I've ever known. So many people have reached out to tell me how they felt about him and the love they have for him. He is very very loved.
Unfortunately, with it being the beginning of the year, he was bo able to register for insurance. He will have thousands and thousands of dollars in medical bills very quickly. We are trying to replace his phone, which is gone, and continue to pay is bill so he can keep his number. We also have his car payment, tags, and insurance to help him keep his car. We will need to replace necessities when he is able to leave the hospital, and have enough saved up for a first/last months rent and down payment. I also have vet bills for the kitties for respiratory infections, vaccinations, spay/neuter, and worm/flea meds. Our parents are in their 70s and on a fixed income, so they can only help so much, and could use help with gas to go back and forth to see him.
Any amount at all will help him and is greatly appreciated. Prayers for him are appreciated as well. He loves sunflowers, so if you find anything sunflower that makes you smile, or if you would like to make a cash donation, it can be taken to Adrian City Fire Department. Thank you so much for your support for my brother Taylor. It means the world to me and my family. We feel very helpless right now, so we are working hard to prepare for his future and recovery, and his children's future. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers, and share, share, share this far and wide! I can't wait to show him all your love and support!
