My Camera, My Therapy
Donation protected
Hi, My Name is Natalie Ball, I'm a 3rd year student at The University of South Wales. During lockdown, like many, I’ve struggled with my mental health and with mental health services really lacking here in the UK, I’ve found that staying creative and using my 1-hour of exercise during lockdowns has really helped me and maybe even saved me.
I wanted to find other people who like me have used staying creative to help with their mental health and collate this into a Zine and a physical exhibition (rules allowing) of lots of different peoples images along side their stories, struggles, hardships and how photography has helped them stay focused and creative in such difficult times.
I will be creating a Zine, everybody will get a copy who takes part for free, it would be structed over several weeks, with weekly. Initially I had funds set aside for this for 100 zines with about 10 people taking part. But this has grown substantially since putting out on social media and I don't want to leave anybody behind as this subject is so important to me and so important to everybody who use Art/Photography to help with their own Mental Health.
The amount suggested on here was £1000. I plan to create 2 Zines now with everybody's work so nobody gets left behind and has the opportunity to have their voices heard about how important photography is to them during these difficult times and beyond. Everything else raised, whether I reach the target or not will be donated to Mind Charity. They support people and their mental health and find ways of helping through Art Therapy also. Check out their website:

I just want to show how the Arts and staying creative is so important to so many people and with so many attacks on the creative industry over lockdown, including funding cuts, its saddens me to see this happening.
Staying active with my camera has become so much more to me than just creating, it has showed me their is so much more out there, so much worth living for and how powerful imagery is.
