My Dad, Mike Walker

Hey everyone! Many may already know, that my Dad was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer last summer. For his radiation treatment, he currently is going to Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington D.C. 3 hours away. Due to the long distance, he will have the opportunity to stay in the area with close relatives until he can find an affordable long-term facility for people in this situation.

He is a self-employed plumber with no other employees but himself. Medical insurance is provided through my Mom, which will help with the cost of his medical treatments. But someone self-employed has no option of sick leave, paid vacation time, or PTO. Having to stay in the area of Washington D.C. for a minimum of three months, my Dad will be out of work with no income.

My Dad has prayed about whether this is something he should do because of the struggle to come to terms with asking when he has always been self-reliant. My family is not one to ask for help, especially financially, but the stress of missing work while still having to meet payments, insurance, and personal expenses is one that he can not bare while going through this process.

I started this page over a week ago, and he finally told me to go ahead and go through with it. The smallest donation will help more than you know, along with a prayer in his name to go with it. Now being a grandfather, my Dad wanted to introduce everyone to the little man in the cover photo of this page. That is his grandson Marshall; his motivation to be strong physically and spiritually to beat this cancer.
