My Dads recovery after amputation

Donation protected
Hi my name is Courtney,
Me, my brother and my sister are setting up this fundraiser for my dad (Daniel).

For around 6 years my dad has been in tremendous pain in the back of his calf, whilst doing the simplest of exercises such as walking (something he did love to do as a family every Sunday). After numerous tests and investigations our dad was diagnosed with the condition called peripheral vascular disease (PVD). Last year his symptoms worsened to the point he ended up with gangrene in one of his toes due to lack of blood supply. Unfortunately the toe or foot could not be saved as he would not heal and had to have a below knee amputation.

If you know my dad you will know that he really is one of the most loving, caring, kindest people  you will ever meet, he loves life and would do anything for anyone. He is always there to help others and never expects anything in return. For years he has always gone down to the homeless shelters during the winter months to donate clothes and food, he even took us with him when we was young. He’s done loads of charity work for kids with cancer and people with prostate cancer. He worked all the way up to his operation and is still talking about needing to get back to work now because he still feels the need to provide for us.

My dad has been an amazing grandad for my little boy Chester who turned one in January. The bond that the two of them share is magical and it is really upsetting that due to the amputation it will now be a lot more difficult, if possible at all to share regular grandad/grandson activities such as playing football, walks to the park, going to watch Sheffield Wednesday and even playing on the beach with my son and also any future grandchildren.

My dad is a very fit man. He has always looked after himself, regularly worked out in the gym, played football weekly and even played on his very favourite clubs ground (even though he missed a penalty). He has always been a very active and healthy person and even while experiencing severe pain on an almost daily basis for 6 years he still made his best efforts to stay fit, spend time with his family and worked hard to provide for his family.

This is why I’m trying to raise funds to try and help my dad get some time to rest and recover and not have to worry about going straight back to work. He’s a proud man but he needs time to recover and get his head around this life changing operation.

We would be very grateful of any funds we can raise to help make our dads recovery as stress free as possible. We really appreciate the time you’ve taken to read my dads story.

Thank you Courtney
