My Dad's Journey Back to Health
Donation protected
My dad, Steve Sosa is the strongest person I know. He is a father of 5, and grandfather or "Granda" of 1. He is also an over 21 year veteran of the Seminole County Sheriffs Office. He is currently assigned to the Fugitive Aprehension Unit, as an investigator. He is a dedicated worker and family man, who is 100% invested in all of his children and their sports and activitys, which included softball, baseball and soccer. He loves serving and protecting the community in which he grew up in and has known his whole life and most importantly providing for his family. But on Tuesday, January 10th 2017, at the age of 42, his life was changed forever. He went to the ER for stomach pains, and after testing, was told he had a ruptued appendix, which is serious but easily treated if caught in time. He had his 1st surgery that same day to have his appendix removed, and we thought he would be fine. But we then received devestating news the very next day.... his appendix didn't rupture, it was cancer, which had pereferated the appendix wall and into the colon. So with that news, we were informed that he would have another major surgery, just two days later, to remove 2 feet of his colon, and 32 of his lymph nodes. They had to see if it had spread, and if so to what degree. He had the 2nd surgery on Thursday Jan 12th, and then we just had to wait for the results from pathology. It was a VERY long weekend. The surgeon and oncologist both felt my dad would still need chemotherapy, regardless of the outcome, because the appendix perferated, which means that the cancer cells were leaking into his body. So for the third time, in just eight days, my dad had his third surgery to implant a chemo port into his chest. On January 17th, just before his third surgery, we recived extrodinary news, that the colon and lymph nodes were clear, along with his CT scan's. THANK GOD!!! But since the appendix was perferated, cancer cells could have traveled, which we can't see yet, so as a preventative measure, he will have to endure months of harsh chemotherapy, to hopefully keep the cancer away. With all of this being said, I want to help relieve some of my dad's finacial burdens. He will be out of work for months(we won't know how many until next Tuesday when he has his 1st oncology appointment), but he wont be able to work his off-duty details which is where he makes most of his income to provide for our family. I just want to try to help and let my dad worry about healing and getting strong again rather than anything else. Anyone who knows my dad knows he is a man of his word, and is loved by many. Anything and everything is GREATLY appreciated. Thank you all so so so much.
