My dream: escape chaos and attend university
Donation protected
We have organized this campaign for Ireidis Landaeta and will send all donations to her in Ecuador via a secure connection. We met Ireidis three years ago in the lobby of a Guayaquil Museum. Since then, she has written and called us faithfully, sending her personal stories—in English and Spanish—and sharing her determination. We believe confidently that Ireidis has enormous potential, and that her skills will improve the world. Thanks for your kindness. Casey Fast and Liz Heaney
“My name is Ireidis Landaeta. I dream of achieving much in my life. I am making progress, but I need assistance from others who are stronger and wiser than I am. You can help.
“I come from Venezuela, and I am 22 years old. I’ve been living in Ecuador for the past 4 years. I left my family and home country due to an economic crisis and lawlessness. While struggling for some years in this new location, facing discrimination and engaging in difficult jobs to earn money, I have finally obtained my legal documents and been accepted into a university, where I can finally pursue my chosen career.
“The University of Arts in Guayaquil, Ecuador, is public, and its tuition is free. Unfortunately, living expenses are not. I need $2,105 for my first semester to cover the cost of housing, food, transportation, and study materials. I ask you to contribute to my goal.
“I will be studying literature to pursue my dream of becoming a professional writer/editor. I have already published newspaper articles, edited a book, and written several short stories. I am confident I can achieve excellent grades and even obtain a scholarship to cover my living expenses in future semesters.
“University is just the first step in achieving my dream. I have learned to fight for what I want to accomplish. Lack of money will only slow me down; it will not stop me. Obstacles make me determined to continue fighting.
“Will you be so kind as to help me? You can donate any amount, no matter how small, because many drops of sand will fill my bucket.
“Also, you can boost me by sharing my campaign with more people. I'll be infinitely thankful for your help. Any help from you will be received with great appreciation. Thank you for your time and for reading my story.”
