Please Help Fund My Driving Journey With An Adapted Car
Donation protected
Dear Kind Donors,
Hi, My name is Lexi and I’ve been disabled since May 2005. A routine surgery that I walked into but needed a wheelchair on the way out. I’m married with 2 children and I’ve always wanted my independence. Driving has been a dream of mine but unfortunately, I’ve never had to the money to pursue it. As a family we’ve always relied on my parents, family, friends & my carer. My folks are in their 70’s now and my Dad is finding it hard with driving my mum to her doctors and hospital appointments - mum has beat breast cancer twice but now has a GIST - a cancerous tumour in her stomach - and Acute Coronary Syndrome with Unstable Angina. My dad never complains but he’s finding it hard. My husband has a brain tumour and struggles finding the energy to pick up the kids from school by bus. Our son has autism and would love to get out of the house more. Our daughter is 14 & it won’t be too long before I hear those wonderful words, Mum, I missed the bus! Can you pick me up please?
I’ve been taking driving lessons for nearly 3 months in my adapted car through Motability. I have full hand controls - an over-ring accelerator & and a press-down foot brake that’s controlled by my hand - with limited mobility. It’s been a steep learning curve but I’m steadily getting there. I’m so close to passing my test - it’s booked for the 15th Aug (it cost £62 on my credit card - eep!).
I have 14 more hours of lessons to go at £45 an hour. That 7 - 2hr lessons. But sadly, I’ve exhausted our savings and we’re struggling to find the money for the lessons in the run up to my test as well as trying to pay off the lessons, and theory and practical test, I already paid for on my credit card.
Please could you help me complete my driving journey. It’s a little sad, but I can’t wait to be Mum’s taxi. At the fine old age of 50!
Any donation would be truly appreciated.
Many Thanks!
