My Eagle Scout project supporting the Burbank Community YMCA

The Burbank Community YMCA has been a fixture in the community for more than a century. Far more than a gym, it has supported and promoted fellowship as much as it has health and well-being. As a local student and Scout, I learned how to swim there and carried its lessons into Scouting and beyond.

Now, in the wake of the pandemic, my local YMCA is still suffering the effects of the social distancing we all endured, and that’s visible simply passing by. As a Scout on the verge of achieving Eagle rank, I see the disrepair they endure and it inspires me to give back to the community that helped make me who I am today.

I am asking the community to help bring pride – and people – back to the YMCA by helping them look their best in an effort to help the Y recover.

The job is simple: repaint the walls of the parking lot that have been subject to harsh weather and neglect. Simple, however, doesn’t mean “easy” or cheap – and that’s where your help comes in.

I am seeking monetary donations that will go directly to this project. The volunteers are eager to help, but what I need are the supplies to make it happen: gallons of paint, trays, rollers, brushes, tarps, tape, and the food and beverages to keep my estimated 30 volunteers well-fueled.

Your support is crucial to the efforts to improve not just the appearance of the building, but the morale of the community.

Please consider donating what you can: we’re projecting $2200 in expenses and every little bit towards that helps. If we don't use all of the money raised, what is left will go directly to the Burbank Community YMCA's youth programming.
