My elderly neighbors, in small, modest homes

Hi, my name is Sherry. I live in a neighborhood of 1508 small homes built in the 1960s and a few in the 1980s. My neighbors need help to keep their homes! Woodburn is a small town in Oregon. Our neighborhood is unique in that the homes are very modest, and we own a golf course. In the area, many homeowner associations either own or have nearby golf courses. Most of them open the courses to the public so they have outside support for them. Our Board, mostly golfers, decided this year to charge all owners the same to support the course, which has effectively doubled their assessments over the last 4 years. Only 15% of our homes have golfers, leaving the rest of us to pay for a private golf course we don’t use. 33%, or approximately 500 of our owners are very low-income and 80 years or older. We have over 100 years old owners still living independently! The average amount 80+ years old living alone have an income at, or below the poverty line. The dues, being $1008 (annually) this year, have caused many to fall behind, liens placed on their homes, and some will sell to avoid foreclosure. They need your help to pay their dues. 100% of funds raised will go to assist homeowners in paying their dues. We have tried bringing in community resources and that has helped some get their home repaired, some to buy food or get help paying medical costs, but they still need relief. They have lived here an average of 16 years, and deserve to stay in their homes.
