My heartfelt appreciation for all your prayers and all the love you’ve shown me through FB posts, cards, texts, and phone calls. I’m so grateful for the times when our lives intersected. I know I’m a part of an amazing, loving tribe of friends and family.
Many of you know I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in my left breast in April of 2007. After a mastectomy surgery involving 7 lymph nodes, weeks of chemo, and radiation I was planing reconstructive surgery when I was diagnosed with yet another form of breast cancer in my right breast. After another mastectomy, another round of chemo and another year of infusions I was cancer free until 2016 and 2018 when I was diagnosed and treated for bladder cancer. That treatment wasn’t too difficult. Last year I had MOHS surgery for a squamous cell area on my face. Even that didn’t get me down! (too much) Cancer won’t stop me………….
Now I’m beginning another fight that has no cure, but with new and innovative treatments, I can hope for many more years of service to others and playing with Justice (my best buddy)! Metastatic breast cancer is stage 4, and the treatments may be challenging, but I’m blessed to know a Higher Power that has carried me this far. My oncologist believes the original cancer from 2007 has metastasized throughout my spine, pelvis, and ribs.
During my first years of treatment all expenses were covered by the very supportive Fairfield Public School system where I was the secretary at Tomlinson Middle School. This time is a very different financial picture. With a retirement fixed income and Humana supplemental policy there are very expensive copays. In the first month of diagnosis and treatment my copays have exceeded $1,500.00, and that’s with a free month of Ibrance! I so appreciate all your offers of support with household errands, visits, and time watching JJ with me. This go around I’m humbly asking for more. The timing came as as surprise as I had just refinanced my mortgage to make necessary kitchen, bathroom, and painting renovations. My friend and I saved and just finished paying for our bucket list Cruise to Alaska. (September 22, 2022) A dream to keep me inspired.
Asking for help is not easy for me, especially when it involves money, but if you can help financially I’m more than grateful. All money raised will be for my healthcare needs and any surplus will be donated to The Jimmy Fund for cancer research. If you know me you know my obsession with all things Red Sox. This is their primary fundraiser each year.
Today (3/23/22) my oncologist explained my fatigue as severe anemia. We will treat this too, but I’ve decided to order a lightweight mobility scooter ($949.00) to give me the ability to get around better. I expect to be racing JJ on his tricycle!
Thank you
