My nephew sacrificed his life to save two others

On January 11th, my sweet nephew David Alexander Elkins was walking off the road beside Willaims Ave in Fort Payne, Alabama with his girlfriend, Bre and her two year old, Emmitt. While walking to a convenient store right down from where they lived, a car swerved off the road with an accelerated speed that's not permitted in a school zone.

As it swerved off the road, Alex pushed his girlfriend and her baby out of the way to safety, getting struck head on by the vehicle in the process of saving two lives and sacrificing his own He died a hero, but if you knew him at all as he was alive, you'd know he lived as one, also. He looked out for all of us even as a kid and has always been an old soul.

Alex loved his family more than anything and gave his life for his girlfriend and the two year old he was raising as his own. He worked very hard and was the sweetest, most gentle heart I've ever known. His family is grief stricken in the wake of our loss. He was the best of us. His parents Melissa Chaote and Chris Elkins are facing every parent's worse nightmare and his brother, whom he was attached to the hip to, has lost his best friend. His girlfriend, Bre, will have to endure the loss of Alex while having witnessed the man she would've married die in her arms due to such a tragic and traumatizing way that no one should have to endure. And Emmitt has lost out of the best father figure he had.

I'm putting together this Gofundme for my family to help pay for expenses of funeral costs and loss of time at work.
