My plan to beat breast cancer is in jeopardy.

Hi, my name is Jean.

I began my breast cancer journey in January of this year. I was diagnosed with cancer in both breasts and one lymph node. I’ve had Friday Heath Plan as my insurance provider for the last two years. I have been positive and proactive about my treatment. My doctors scheduled me to go through 20 weeks of chemotherapy. I am currently in week 15. My bilateral mastectomy is scheduled for October 2, 2023, followed up with reconstruction surgery. There is also the possibility of radiation treatment if the lymph node poses any issues with recurrence.

When I started this journey I planned for the premium payments, co-pays, deductibles and out-of-pocket expenses. I have kept every appointment and have covered all my costs. I have reached my maximum out-of-pocket expenses required by my health plan.

On July 25, 2023, I received an email from Friday Health Plans informing me that my insurance would be canceled on August 31, 2023. The State of Nevada Insurance Division placed the company into receivership and has been granted a court order to liquidate the company. What does this mean for me, and others covered by Friday? This means we must purchase new insurance plans by the end of August to keep medical coverage. It also means that all co-pays, deductibles and out-of-pocket costs will start all over again. It also means I must find insurance that my current doctors accept, or I will have to find a new team of doctors to help finish my treatments and surgeries.

I estimate that the new premiums and out-of-pocket expenses will be close to $10,000. I have exhausted all my resources paying for this the first time. I hate asking for help, but this was truly beyond my control. I was not expecting my insurance to be canceled out from under me or to have to start over again before the year was over. I would greatly appreciate any and all donations you may be able to give. If I raise more money than I need to cover my medical expenses I will donate the remaining money to other cancer patients or a cancer research organization.
