My sister Mary Jordon had a Stem Cell Transplant
Donation protected
My sister Mary has been diagnosed with Myelofibrosis (MF) which is a rare bone marrow cancer. MF occurs in about 1.5 out of every 100,000 people in the US annually. Currently there is no drug therapy that can cure MF.
An allogeneic stem cell transplant (ASCT) is the only potential cure. This treatment has considerable risk Whether or not a patient is a candidate for transplantation is determined by medical indications and the availability of a donor.
She will be admitted the hospital in March where she will receive four days of intense chemo to kill her bone marrow. Mary will be given the stem cells will become Day Zero. The first 100 days after the transplant will be crucial days in the recovery process.
Mary has known that she has this disease for some time and has been working very hard to prepare for a long recovery. She has been saving money to be able to keep her apartment and for living expenses as she may be off work for a year or longer. Unfortunately she will need 24 hour care for several months and will need to be driven back and forth to the cancer center. The insurance will not cover the costs in total and the medical bills are already significant. She will need someone to shop, cook, clean etc. for many many months.
She will not have an immune system. She will need to be extremely vigilant in where she goes, who or what she comes into contact with and what she touches or eats. It is an unusually long recovery and taking immunosuppressants to alleviate the chance if rejection will keep her immune system down for a greater period of time.
THIS IS WHERE WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Please consider donating to help me help her. I would be extremely grateful for any amount no matter how small and I can assure you that every penny will be dedicated to her care. All money will be accounted for and if there is anything that will be left over it will be donated to “Be the Match” and or “The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.”
Please understand how difficult it is for us to ask for help !!We are strong independent women who are very proud and this is not an easy request.
And please if you can’t donate keep Mary and our family in your prayers. We all have a strong faith in God and all prayers are welcome.
We would also ask you to consider registering to be a match for someone else in need. It is the greatest gift of all to be able to give life or to help someone in need.
THANK YOU SO MUCH! PLEASE SHARE!
